Every once in a while you get an epiphany and realize that the world isn't quite what you thought it was.

Today as I was riding the light-rail into work, I noticed that most my fellow passengers wore their monthly bus passes around their neck or attached to their jackets externally. Now if it had just been their bus pass, it wouldn't have bothered me, but what got to me was the realization that they didn't have just their bus pass there. Most of the people had their drivers license, work id, and other forms of ID at the ready. Some even had their credit cards showing (nice new RFID enabled ones too).

Have we reached a point in the United States that we get asked for our identification so much that people are becoming trained to have it instantly at the ready?
